A dump truck slammed into the median in front of 26-19 Jackson Ave. at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, closing westbound traffic from 42nd Road to 44th Drive. Police have set up a detour via Hunter Street that was still in place as of 10 a.m. Residents in the nearby area reported a loud thud that jarred them from their sleep, and police, fire and EMS were on scene within minutes.
Court Square resident Kodjo Hounnake,1 who lives nearby the scene, took this video of the aftermath. It appears the driver was badly injured from the crash:
As you can see from the pictures below, the front axel and fuel line from the dump truck completely dislodged, and sand now covers the street in an attempt to soak up the gas.
EMS and police showed up shortly after the accident at approximately 6:30 a.m.
