You’ve seen the Statue of Liberty, been to Times Square, and crossed the Brooklyn Bridge…now get ready to fill up on Queens!
Local Finds Queens Food Tours, a new Queens based culinary tour company, debuts their weekly food sampling and cultural walking tours of the city’s most diverse borough starting with Long Island City. Founded by two life long Queens natives, the company seeks to highlight the vibrant history, culture, and food of Queens through a non touristy “off the beaten” experience.
“When it comes to good eats, Queens is the king of the boroughs. We have so many world class eateries that need to be in everyone’s itinerary” said Richard Mumith co-founder of the company, “unfortunately, Queens is not yet considered a tourist destination and often has to play second fiddle to the other borough counterparts.”
Local Finds Queens Food Tour seeks to change that. The 3 hour walking tour will include samples from 6 local establishments while learning about the rich history and vibrant present of Long Island City. All customers receive an exclusive brochure which features a map of neighborhood, list of attractions, recommendations of great restaurants and things to do in LIC. Tours will run every Sunday starting at 11am. Eventually, the company hopes to expand on full weekends with new tours all across Queens.
For visitors and tourists, the tour is a unique and memorable way to experience a different part of NYC. For locals, the tour is an opportunity to discover new culinary gems right under their nose. Whoever the crowd, everyone will walk away with new historical and architectural perspectives, satisfied taste buds and a greater appreciation for Queens’ culinary artisans. There is, however, just one thing this tour will not include,
“Food Chains” said Mumith “we are all about discovering, eating, and supporting…local”
