Owner aims for late September opening at The Beast Next Door, 42-51 27th Street

Back in July, we got to know our future neighbors at 42-51 27th Street (The Beast Next Door Bar/Cafe) very well.1 Owner John Veenema was kind enough to let us take a tour of the facilities again, and we can’t help but say we came away very impressed. As you can see from the photos below, the plywood fence has come down in front, and has been replaced by a beautiful glass exterior. Veenema also told The Court Square Blog that he is aiming for a late September opening.

Here’s more about the bar from our interview with him earlier in the year:

We would like to be the best bar in LIC. We envision a community bar where local residents have a place to go – to relax, have a drink and bite to eat – in a rustic elegant environment. Everyone is welcome but we especially hope locals will feel they can come in with friends and see others they know from the community. The cafe element of the business will offer pastries, sandwiches, salads and combination plates (high quality meats and cheeses, olives and dips). The aroma of strong coffee and warm breads will entice daytime customers. The skylight and large doors and windows in the front will provide for a well lit cafe/lounge feel.
