Hunters Point Park Conservancy, NestSeekers International and LIC Landing will present the Academy Award nominated film Julie and Julia on Saturday September 20 at 7:30 p.m. The movie will be shown outdoors on the oval by the NY Waterways Ferry and LIC Landing at the waterfront Hunters Point Park with the dramatic New York City skyline as a backdrop (at Borden Avenue and 2nd Street).
Julie & Julia contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the experiences of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog. The blog was turned into a book that inspired the movie starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Stanley Tucci.
The Hunters Point Park Conservancy selected this movie because much of the movie was filmed in Long Island City and it was inspired by Long Island City resident Julie Powell who will attend the movie and answer questions. Julie is very excited to watch the film in a beautiful outdoor setting in the neighborhood that provided much of the inspiration for her blog. “I’ve lived in LIC for 12 years. Its streets, arts, parks and especially people are my inspiration. Having Julie & Julia screened at Hunters Point is so exciting for me, and such an honor,” said Julie.
This film and future films are being sponsored by the real estate firm, NestSeekers International. Adrian Lupu of NestSeekers was excited to participate in this event and said “Eight years ago we entered this market while no other firm was there and very little infrastructure in place. We have since been part of every step of the transformation of turning this very special neighborhood into a vibrant, lively destination. We are delighted to continue to be part of the community and bring these special events to a special place like Long Island City.”
Please bring blankets or towels to sit on because chairs will not be allowed on the oval. LIC Landing will have popcorn, sandwiches and drinks available for sale. For more information contact Rob Basch at 917-282-4123 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
