In September, New York YIMBY spotted new permits filed with the Department of Buildings for 27-07 43rd Avenue.1 Originally filed as a nine-story residential build,2 the new permits in September called for 108 hotel rooms and nearly 50,000 square feet commercial space. While ‘no decision’ has been made on what the final product will be, that hasn’t stopped construction on the lot. Crews seem to be wrapping up excavation and have moved on to laying the foundation, as seen below.
Here’s more of what YIMBY had to say about the permit switcheroo:
When reached by telephone, the developer – a different person than the one listed on the original residential building permit, filed back in 2005 – said that they were considering switching to a hotel, but no decision had been made. It’s possible that he was being coy, but the new application could also be a dummy permit, which would allow the builder to adhere to the current building code rather than the new one being rolled out soon.
