We’ve been reporting since late September that 44-80 21st Street was ‘likely’ to turn into a Dunkin’ Donuts based on construction permits filed with the Department of Buildings.1 Well, recently, Dunkin’ Donuts officially announced its impending arrival with signage. As you can see in the photo below, a “Coming Soon” sign now hangs in front of the building, and trademarked Dunkin’ Donuts equipment has already been moved inside the store.
Construction workers on scene told us that the coffee shop should be opening “before the end of the year.”

We have slowly been watching the unfortunate progress and it’s a real bummer. They are much worse things in life but not happy about this.

Someone used gold spray paint to make big X’s on the glass over sign in the window. My sediments exactly, however, I fantasize putting a big NO over it..
Absolutely no block in any part of the city needs 4 delis within one block. None.
I’m not a huge fan of Dunkin Donuts – I’ll get my coffee at the Mill – but there needs to be greater diversity in retail and especially on that block – and seriously for the kids and parents having the ice cream and other stuff DD sells during the Summer will be great with the park next door.
Dunkin Donuts brings trash to the area, is unhealthy for all that visit, and brings no benefits whatsoever to the neighborhood. I hope nobody goes there and that they shutter within a few months. That’ll be the best thing that can take place within this area.
