Checking in on 5Pointz on the one year anniversary of the whitewashing

Last week, The Court Square Blog was featured on Curbed NY’s story on the gentrification of New York,1 and we used our moment on the soapbox to reminisce on the whitewashing of 5Pointz. Well, today is the anniversary of that day, and with that in mind, we stopped by to check in on the site. Only a few structures are left from the old 5Pointz building at 45-46 Davis Street.2 As you can see from the photos below, construction crews have mostly laid waste to the middle and rear sections of the lot, with only two structures remaining. All of the buildings on the Jackson side of the lot are still intact — for now. We’ll check back in when those buildings have been demolished.

When all is said and done, the project will deliver 800 luxury condos and 200 affordable units along with a new public park, over 50,000 square feet of retail space and a 250 space public parking garage.3
