We’ve been keeping a careful eye on the string of brownstones along Jackson Avenue at the old 5Pointz site.1 The buildings are the only buildings still left standing a the old graffiti mecca, and they’re on their way down. We stopped by last week and saw that demolition is about 50 percent done on those buildings, and it won’t be long before the buildings are completely gone.
When all is said and done, the project will deliver 800 luxury condos and 200 affordable units along with a new public park, over 50,000 square feet of retail space and a 250 space public parking garage.2
The buildings will be rentals. No condos (luxury or otherwise) will be built here.
Why build 800 condos and 200 apartments and only 250 “public parking spaces”? Most people who buy condos also have cars. It doesn’t seem like enough parking spaces for that many people.
@Dan,
Have any data to back that statement? I disagree, most of the newer residents in the area are not opting for a car, especially when they don’t have access to parking. There should have been no parking included with this development.
