On February 14th, MoMA PS1 Sunday Sessions presents VALIUM VALENTINE; a collaboration between acclaimed songwriter/producer and Miike Snow lead singer, Andrew Wyatt, and German artist Sarah Ortmeyer.

Throughout the six-hour musical performance Mr. Wyatt is joined by male guest musicians for an improvised durational piece. Creating an emotional peak at the top of every passing hour, female singers each perform a song that Mr. Wyatt has composed especially for the occasion.

Andrew describes how, when writing the songs, “I was pretty much carried by the strength of the atmosphere imagined by Sarah and myself: bizarre, Neverland surroundings and an unseeming cast of characters- all under a ‘starry’ dome.  The music seemingly wrote itself, propelled along by an otherworldly vision which nevertheless carries some kind of humanity.”

In her artistic practice Sarah Ortmeyer often explores moments of ritualized happiness. For VALIUM VALENTINE she transforms the VW Dome into a 360-degree planetarium of egg-shaped stars within a set that is as romantic as it is sad. I am inspired by “mourning and mainstream, sad ice cream, grey palm trees and singing superstars, so I created a starry sky, falling stars, domestic bathrobes and a towel-stage covered with oversized raw eggs” says Ortmeyer.  ”VALIUM VALENTINE is an idea that came together during a Manhattan cruise in Andrew’s egg shaped race car.”

The audience is invited to join in a celebration of Valentine’s Day’s insipid power.
