27-17 42nd Road begins to rise

The last time we checked in at 27-17 42nd Road (a/k/a 28-02 42nd Road) was in March when foundation work was in its early stages.1 When we stopped by last week, we saw that foundation work has officially completed, with construction now reaching the ground floor and rebar sprouting for the first level.

The former site of the proposed “Star Tower” back in 2008 had been vacant for many years before the lot sold for a princely sum in 2014.2 A new round of permits were approved on the site in December, 2014.3

  1. The problem for them is that they’re right where debris keeps falling down from Heatherwood’s Tower 28 site. A bolt even fell onto a city bus and cracked its windshield. At least the workers for this project will be in hard hats on sight, but I worry about their safety being below the Heatherwood site dropping metal shards from above.
That whole area is just a huge mess.
