Sapps, a Japanese eatery led by restauranter Shih Lee, will open at 27-26 Jackson Avenue on Tuesday, Nov. 28, he wrote in an email to the Court Square Blog.1
The restaurant will feature ground floor space for approximately 50 patrons, with an upstairs mezzanine area with room for 30 more for private events.
While the restaurant will mostly serve Japanese food, the Shih is seeking to offer different Asian fusion dishes than the offerings at SHI, Shih’s other Asian restaurant on the Long Island City waterfront located at 47-20 Center Blvd.
“Just like Sapporo East had a great run, we want to take it to the next level,” co-owner Eric Lehrer said in an earlier interview with The Court Square Blog.2 “Court Square has been around before the boom and the 5 Pointz was a big part of that. We want to integrate the history and character of the neighborhood into Sapps. I think it’s part of our philosophy to remember the good things from the past and hold on to it and take it into the future. We want to remember all the good it did for the neighborhood.”
Check out more about the restaurant on its website, which states that “Our goal is to provide an upbeat spot for Court Square residents that will be much more than a just a restaurant.”

Sapps will open at the end of November
