Eleventh Street Arts at 46-06 11th Street is excited to announce its first show of the new year – The Still Life: Contemporary Interpretations. Curated by artists Samuel Hung and Justin Wood, this exhibition will showcase a range of subject matter, from whimsical, every-day objects, to extravagant staples of the still life tradition, as interpreted by leading contemporary painters.
This exhibition presents the perspectives of over 20 contemporary realist painters and celebrates their various approaches to continuing the legacy of the still life genre.
Justin Wood brings a sense of romanticism to contemporary life by harking back to the golden age of still life painting, while Rodrigo Mateo provides an intimate glimpse into the artist’s studio. Sam Hung imbues his distinctly nostalgic and carefully rendered subjects with playful narratives.
Anthony Baus and Sandra Sanchez present a collaborative effort, Snailing to a New World, which combines the genres of landscape and tromp-l’œil, along with the esteemed practice of master copying, resulting in a unique contribution to the tradition of still life painting.
The Still Life features work by Anthony Baus, Liz Beard, Lucas Bononi, Jon Brogie, Diana Buitrago, Todd Casey, Devin Cecil-Wishing, Jacob Collins, Savannah Tate Cuff, Tony Curanaj, Kathryn Engberg, Kelly Foss, Samuel Hung, Brendan Johnston, Michael Klein, Rodrigo Mateo, John Morra, Kevin Müller-Cisneros, Grant Perry, Rachel Personett, Roberto Rosenman, Carlo Russo, Sandra Sanchez, Brian West, Katie Whipple, Justin Wood, Dale Zinkowski
