In June, The Court Square Blog was the first to report that LIC Community Acupuncture was going to open at 42-72 Hunter Street. The store opened recently, and we sat down with owner Seung Park to discuss her new business.
The Court Square Blog: Tell us about the philosophy behind LIC Community Acupuncture.
LIC Community Acupuncture: While there have been tremendous advances in modern medicine, there continues to be vastly detrimental side-effects that can occur from conventional therapies. Even the most common medications like Advil, Motrin, and Aleve have been linked to increased risk of heart attack or stroke according the FDA. Yet there are safer alternatives that have been found to be effective for thousands of years, and for millions throughout the world. We want to make these natural therapies available so people have a choice. There are times when conventional medicine is absolutely necessary. But there are also times when other interventions can be safer, potentially more effective, and more sustainable for long-term patient health.
TCSB: Why did you pick Court Square?
LICCA: It’s a fantastic area. There is so much life and growth here; it’s exciting to be in an area while it’s undergoing a massive transformation. And it’s exciting to be a part of that transformation. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this area will change in the next few years. Also, the people are great. We’ve met a lot of the business owners in the neighborhood, and we’re continuously surprised at the warm welcome we’ve received.
