Best Hockey Camps on Long Island

Hockey can be a fun pastime or it can be an illustrious career. Either way, you aren’t going to get anywhere without the right training and plenty of practice. One way to keep your skills honed during the off-season is to participate in hockey camps. However, they aren’t all as helpful as the next and finding one can be difficult. That’s why, in this article, we are going to look at the best hockey camps on Long Island.

Skate 2 Score

The first hockey camp up on our list is the services provided by Jacki Munzel. Jacki Munzel is a former National and World International figure skating competitor. This has given her a great knowledge of how to generate movement and use that movement on the ice.

If you are interested in private lessons, that is offered. However, Munzel also offers clinics and camps for interested participants as well. Some of these include the Saturday Morning Power Hour and Defend the Blue Line camp which both are limited to 40 skaters and helps you to improve your general hockey skills. The camps are located in the Newbridge Arena in Bellmore.

Iceland Long Island

Another rink in Long Island is Iceland Long Island. This rink offers a variety of camps and clinics to accommodate different skill levels in general skating and hockey. Currently, they are in their one of their summer sessions which lasts for 10 weeks and they meet every Sunday.

You will need equipment to attend this clinic including a helmet with full shield, wheeled hockey bags, skates, shin pads, elbow pads, and hockey sticks. The participants in these clinics are grouped into 3 groups based on skill level. The first group works on the basics such as forward skating and balance drills, the second group moves slightly up in difficulty with techniques such as puck handling and forward crossovers and the final group is the highest skill level and includes techniques such as backwards crossovers, passing, shooting, and positions.

Attack Hockey

Attack Hockey is run by Jack Greig. Greig is a former professional hockey player who played from 1995 to 2004. Since retiring as a professional player, he has become a fantastic coach to many teams, leading them to tournaments such as international and regional silver sticks. He is also known as one of the premier trainers for power skating and skill development in New York. So, you can trust that is camps are ones that will truly help you improve your hockey game.

Attack Hockey offers a variety of camps for hockey players and those learning the sport. First and foremost, Greig strives to provide a safe environment for hockey players that is conducive to training and learning. They lean toward intensive and specialized instruction. This way, they can help each player reach their potential in the sport.

Sportime Summer Camp

Unlike the other choices we’ve looked at on this list, Sportime isn’t made for ice hockey. Instead, this camp specializes in helping people learn roller hockey and dek hockey. This is, in large part, because the summer camps offered by Sportime are aimed at younger children while the other camps we’ve looked at have focused on helping young adults hone their skills.
