On Tuesday, we reported that Court Square Animal Hospital will be opening at 42-38 Crescent Street a/k/a 24-12 42nd Road in the spring.1 It will be opening in the 4,328 square feet of commercial space at Arcadia LIC.2 We spoke with owner Jared Coren to get a preview of what his clinic will bring to the neighborhood. Here’s what he had to say:
Q. Tell us about your philosophy behind Court Square Animal Hospital.
A. We believe that the human-companion animal bond is one of life’s greatest treasures. We have dedicated our professional lives to preserve the bond by practicing the highest level of veterinary care in which we treat each patient as if they were our own. Our goal is to provide each client and patient with a first class experience. Starting with our first hospital in 1983, West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center in Huntington, our network has grown to include locations in Commack, Locust Valley, Oyster Bay, and a specialty center, Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care.
Q. Why Long Island City and specifically Court Square?
A. I have been driving over the Queensboro bridge on my commute from Manhattan to Huntington for the past 6 years. I have witnessed the incredible growth of Long Island City, especially in Court Square. Driving through the area I realized that there wasn’t a veterinarian in Court Square and that the closest veterinarians were on Vernon. Given how pet friendly Long Island City is, I felt that there was a need for an animal hospital in Court Square. One of my colleagues at West Hills, Dr. Jessica DeAcetis, currently lives in Long Island City and we decided that opening a location in that neighborhood made sense.
Q. When do you plan on opening, and what are your anticipated hours?
A. We plan to open May 2019 (ideally earlier if possible!). We plan on being open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm and Saturdays from 8am to 4pm.
