QWFF: Smile of Nazareno both jars and touches

Smile of Nazareno, a short film, was screened at The Museum of the Moving Image on Saturday evening as part of the Boundaries thematic block. Here is the movie description: “Nazareno’s birthday falls on a very special day: thousands of people move through the streets of Manila. When he comes back to his mother after the festival, with a piece of aluminum foil as a gift, of all things, it is touching and shaking at once.”

The Court Square Blog Review: Nazareno display of love, loyalty and naivety only play into the heartbreak of the film’s jarring and thought provoking ending, which comments on the desperation and hopelessness of life on the streets of Manila.
